Database for information on Substances of Concern In Products (SCIP)
Database for information on Substances of Concern In Products (SCIP)
According to the EU Waste Framework Directive (WFD) from 5th January 2021 all products containing dangerous substances needs to be reported to a database provided by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the database is called SCIP (Substances of Concern In Products).
Only those products containing >0,1% w/w (weight by weight) of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) on the REACH (Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) candidate list must be reported.
These components should be able to be linked to the product, so that authorities or end customers can see which components contain dangerous substances in a product.
The purpose for this program is to replace the hazardous substances by transparency on contents and informed choices when buying products, and to ensure these substances are not present in recycled products.
All importers, manufacturers and distributors shall report products supplied in EU which are containing SVHC to SCIP, read more information in European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) website as below link
Scania CV will use new portal based on VIN code for submission of SCIP ID for each vehicle.
Distributers shall also report the contents of SVHC as a separate actor in the supply chain.
For parts containing SVHC that are assembled after factory, a new report for the assembled vehicle shall be submitted by the actor placing the vehicle on the market. This should be done by bodybuilder, dealer or the distributer, depending on the business agreement.
