CAVA BACK OFFICE FOR BODYBUILDERS
‘’THE SEAMLESS WAY TO OPTIMIZE A TRUCK CONFIGURATION’’
CAVA, short for Calculation and Visualization Application, is an advanced tool designed to optimize vehicle configurations.
CAVA Back Office now is available for bodybuilders as well, offering a modular IT solution for vehicle attributes. It enables a seamless, efficient, and reliable process for truck optimization.
The objective of CAVA is to understand product and legal attributes, ensuring that vehicles are configured correctly and legally compliant.
CAVA includes several modules, such as customer requirements, specification creation, load management, manoeuvring, and more. Due to the variation of functionalities and modules, it is essential to undergo training before using this tool.
Training material are available in the Truck Bodybuilder Homepage to guide you through the various tools and functionalities of the CAVA Back Office system.
For further information, including how to manage access, please contact your Scania local market representative.

EC WVTA – MULTI-STAGE COOPERATION AGREEMENT
The Multi-Stage Cooperation Agreement (MSCA) between two manufacturers - Scania and a Bodybuilder - is required to comply with the European vehicle type-approval regulations outlined in Directive 2007/46/EC and Regulation (EU) 2018/858.
These regulations require manufacturers involved in multi-stage vehicle production collaborate to ensure the completed vehicle meets all technical and regulatory requirements. Each manufacturer is responsible for their part of the approval process, ensuring that all systems, components, and technical units meet the necessary standards. The MSCA facilitates the exchange of documents and information to achieve full vehicle approval.
Once the agreement is signed by both parties, the Bodybuilder gains access to the EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) and related sub-certificates, which are available on the Scania Truck Bodybuilder portal.
The Scania distributor in the bodybuilder's home country evaluates and decides whether the bodybuilder qualifies to sign the MSCA with Scania CV AB. This evaluation should among other things include a valid compliance statement for Conformity of Production (COP).
For more information, please contact your local Scania distributor via the market contact listed in the Help section of the Bodybuilder portal.

CYBER SECURITY AND VEHICLE SOFTWARE UPDATE REQUIREMENTS
In the European Union, new regulations on cybersecurity (UN ECE R155) and vehicle software updates (UN ECE R156) have mandatory compliance dates as follows:
1. Cybersecurity (UN ECE R155):
a. Mandatory for all new vehicle types from July 2022.
b. Mandatory for all vehicles with first registration from July 2024.
2. Vehicle Software Update (UN ECE R156):
a. Mandatory for all new vehicle types from July 2024.
b. Conformity to vehicle software update standards (UN ECE R156) is already mandatory for all new vehicle types from July 2022 also mandatory for all vehicles with first registration from July 2024.
These two regulations establish new requirements for automotive cybersecurity and software updates. Manufacturers or body manufacturers must have certified a CSMS (Cyber Security Management System) and a SUMS (Software Update Management System) as the basis for type approval. They must be able to demonstrate this certification to the approval authority or an institute accredited by the approval authority.
It's important to note that compliance with the basic requirements outlined in this guideline may be affected by the use of control units, radio remote controls, app applications, or updates to the existing body-specific software, among other factors.
Procedure
Within the framework of EC multi-stage type approval, each bodybuilder is responsible for obtaining approval and ensuring conformity for the production of all systems, components, or separate technical units they manufacture or add at an earlier stage in the manufacturing process. They must conduct an assessment to determine whether the body or its components are subject to the regulations.
If the body or its components fall under the scope of these regulations, it becomes the responsibility of the bodybuilder to secure the corresponding system approvals. Furthermore, during the implementation of the structure, it is imperative to identify security risks, including the potential for cyber-attacks, through a comprehensive risk assessment. These security risks should consider potential impacts on the basic vehicle and its safe operation, and appropriate measures must be taken to mitigate these risks.
For any further questions or inquiries, bodybuilders can reach out to their local Scania distributor for assistance and guidance.

ELECTRIC PTO ON ELECTRICAL VEHICLES
When using the electric PTO (PTO EL) it is essential that the installation parameters are within the specified limit values before commissioning can be carried out. This is important to avoid damage to the vehicle's VCB system and to achieve correct functionality of the PTO EL. Scania warranties do not cover defects due to connected components with values out of specified limits.
The value range for each measurement point are described in detail in “Work on electric power take-off (PTO EL)”.
Therefore the bodybuilder is responsible for measurements being performed before commissioning. It is important that the bodybuilder documents these values for each vehicle in its own administrative routines for up to 8 years and must be able to be shown on request after the vehicle has been put into service by the customer. There is a possibility to store in Scania Product Individual Information (SPII) to facilitate communication. Please contact your market contact for more information.

ELECTRIC PTO ON ELECTRICAL VEHICLES
When using the electric PTO (PTO EL) it is essential that the installation parameters are within the specified limit values before commissioning can be carried out. This is important to avoid damage to the vehicle's VCB system and to avoid impair the function of PTO EL.
We are introducing the document “Measurements on PTO EL when commissioning” as a help for bodybuilders that will install bodywork equipment to the PTO EL connections.
https://til.scania.com/d/bwm/22:10-843?lang=en-GB
The value range for each measurement point are described in detail in “Work on electric power take-off (PTO EL)”. https://til.scania.com/d/bwm/22:10-834?lang=en-GB
The measurements points aims just to the values that are affected by the operation of the bodywork system connected to the PTO EL. The bodywork equipment must comply with all other requirements stated in “Work on electric power take-off (PTO EL)”
This new document shall be taken as a routine guideline and can be incorporated in bodybuilder own commissioning routines for its bodywork equipment.
Scania might ask for the commissioning measurement values after the vehicle is taken in operation by the end customer, therefore it is important that bodybuilders are documenting this commissioning values in their own administrative routines for up to 8 years.
